The Northern Pennsylvania Hardwoods USA Consortium (NPAHC) is coordinated by and composed of the export and trade development staff from the North Central, Northern Tier and Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Planning & Development Commissions. The Consortium was formed in 1998 in an effort to better promote and coordinate international trade events to serve the particularly abundant hardwood industry in the northern Pennsylvania region. Serving 19 counties* in total, NPAHC supports international trade activity promotion with funds from the State of Pennsylvania, as well as other sources. NPAHC gauges its service level and selects activities based on feedback from local industry representatives and market trends. Export-ready companies served in the past manufacture or sell a number of locally harvested species and specialize in products ranging from lumber to logs, from veneer to dimension pieces, and from equipment to decorative /furniture items.

Among the various goals of NPAHC, educating "new-to-export" wood industry companies in export practices is highlighted, while assisting presently exporting companies who are "new-to-market" with marketing strategies is stressed. NPAHC advocates the overall goal of "Getting to Market" as a most crucial element to each hardwood company's strategy to export. By supplying various international opportunities (trade shows, conferences, customized counseling, one-on-one meetings, briefings etc.) at minimal costs, NPAHC believes it can best aid the small to mid-sized companies within its local industry base. Building a recognizable presence in international markets for the quality hardwoods that come from northern Pennsylvania's forests is NPAHC’s principal aim.
