The majestic forests of the Northern Pennsylvania Hardwoods Region, known individually as the Northwest, North Central and the Northern Tier regions, are part of the vast quantity of more than 17 million acres of renewable high quality forestland that cover the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.   The Northern Pennsylvania Hardwoods Region offers the largest combination stock of black beech in North America.  The Northern Pennsylvania Hardwoods Region, through a near perfect combination of climate and soil conditions, has resulted in high quality tree stands that are growing at two times the rate of which they are harvested.

The time-honored hardwoods industry has continuously been vital to the economy of the Northern Pennsylvania Hardwoods Region.  In the late 1800s, hardwood production was closely tied to the railroad, leather tanning and iron industries.  Today, the tradition continues with hundreds of businesses manufacturing hardwood products that supply various industries, such as construction, home furnishings and sports and recreation.  With modern technology operating through all phases of the industry processes and employees having generations of experience, high quality finished products are produced at a competitive turn-around time.

With the forests of the Northern Pennsylvania Hardwoods Region just now reaching the prime for harvesting at 70-110 years of age, workforce commitment through sustainability and Pennsylvania boasting the largest Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified landmass in the world, the hardwood timber resources are secured well into the 21st Century.
